A little delay

So, after talking to Kelsey and a few other people, I have come to realize that a few of us are a wee bit behind on this book. Therefore, we are extending the deadline another couple weeks. Sorry, for those that are on time. Whenever I get Kelsey's questions/ discussion topics I will post them.

I know this is the third thing I have posted today, sorry. I just wanted everyone to feel free to email anything you want me to "post". For example, the book we are working on is your pick and you want me to post discussion questions. Or even if there are questions you would like to pose about another book.

Also, I would like everyone to email me your first pick. Title, author and why you chose that book. I will figure out how to decide what order we go in eventually.

Next Book...Kelsey's Pick

So I'm still working on how we are going to decide who picks which books...let me know if you have any ideas. However, for this months, Kelsey picked, because she is my partner in crime on this. So I felt that it was only fair to let her pick since she was there since conception of this thing.

Her pick for June is 1984 by George Orwell. I think we have until the end of June to finish.

(Kelsey, if any of that was wrong, just let me know and I will correct it.)

Ender's Game Discussion

For those of you in or around the Bristol area, we will get together soon. I am currently in Texas with my sister and her family, but I will be back next week. We will have to figure out when everyone can get together. Perhaps either Wed June 10 or Sat June 13. Let me know when is best.

As for the discussion here... I thought I would post some questions/thoughts and have you all comment on them.

1) First off, did you like/enjoy the book?

2) Who do you feel you identified with the most and why?

3) Do you feel that what they put Ender was justified to save all of Earth? Do you think they could have gotten the same results from Ender?

4) What do you think of the ending?

5) Do you feel sorry for the buggers or think they deserved what happened to them?

6) Have you thought about when this book was written...the things Card writes about that hadn't happened then but have now?

Book Number One

Since it is almost the end of April, you have the whole month of May to finish reading this book. I first read this book when I was in high school. It is a sci-fi novel, but it made me think. So here you go...enjoy!

"Ender's Game" - Orson Scott Card

The first chapter

So this is the beginning...the first chapter. A few of my friends and I decided to start a book club. Since the majority of us do not live in the same place, we decided to have a blog so we can discuss the books. We wanted to start this for a couple reasons.
1) To be introduced to new literature and new ideas
2) Intellectual stimulation

We will be taking turns in choosing the books, and the amount of time to read the book will fluctuate depending on the length and depth of the book.

I understand if life gets in the way and you get behind or need take a break. Also, I wanted to make it known that if there is a book that you feel would compromise who you are and/or what you believe in, feel free to skip it and wait for the next selection.

You may wait until to post at the end of the time given for the book, but feel free to post while you are reading the book. I will ask two thing though...
1) If you comment while reading, list the chapter you are discussing.
2) If you want to discuss something that with spoil part of the book, please make that known in your title so everyone has the choice of avoiding the spoiler if they choose.

I am very much looking forward to reading, thinking and even debating with you all.
