Ender's Game Discussion

For those of you in or around the Bristol area, we will get together soon. I am currently in Texas with my sister and her family, but I will be back next week. We will have to figure out when everyone can get together. Perhaps either Wed June 10 or Sat June 13. Let me know when is best.

As for the discussion here... I thought I would post some questions/thoughts and have you all comment on them.

1) First off, did you like/enjoy the book?
2) Who do you feel you identified with the most and why?
3) Do you feel that what they put Ender was justified to save all of Earth? Do you think they could have gotten the same results from Ender?
4) What do you think of the ending?
5) Do you feel sorry for the buggers or think they deserved what happened to them?
6) Have you thought about when this book was written...the things Card writes about that hadn't happened then but have now?

  1. 1) I enjoyed the book a lot, although it was a little depressing.
    2) ?
    3) Yeah was he capable of doing what he did without all the crap they put him through? Never know will you?
    4) Didn't see it coming, had no idea he was fighting the actual war! The very ending was a bit odd though, still not sure how the "buggers" were communicating with him.
    5) I do feel sorry for them because it seemed that they weren't coming back for earth.

  2. 1) i LOVED it. like lissa said tho, it def was a little depressing, but i thoroughly enjoyed it. it made me actually feel miserable through most of the 2nd half, but i seriously loved it neway lol.

2)it seemed as if almost all of enders motives were so innocent and harmless, only wanting good 4 himself, (and all) that i WANTED 2 b like ender. i mean, he truly was a genius, but not 4 his book smarts. he made me want 2 learn how 2 identify with the rest of the human race, and how 2 defeat my enemy my attacking their weaknesses. so wise...

3)1st of all, i dnt think that they were saving earth. they were pretending 2 attack fear, when, in reality, they were only creating fear in order to look like the hero that destroyed it. so no, it was not justified.

4)oooohhh i loved the ending! im a leave-me-hangin kinda grl when it comes 2 a good story, i love 2 find out that i cant really find out nething. but as far as killing the buggers...(cont)

5)i felt really bad 4 them. i mean, here is an unknown, yet highly intelligent, species of some sort, mindin their own business. and who, apparently, knew more about our own race(down 2 a specific person!-ender-) than we even did. just imagine what humanity could have learned from them if only we had found some way of communication! however, im starting 2 think that that was Enders purpose all along...to be our mediator. because he was chosen 2 see through them what no human could. man im getting depressed just thinking about it.

    6) yes! like the "nets" and the "desk"!! i mean seriously? sooo awesomely predicted.....as so many other things were. the author of this book seems very ingenius.....like 2 meet them someday.
